Selecting a Pony Club Air Pistol:

- The dimensions of the pistol must fit within a box measuring 420 x 200 x 50 mm, consistent with the standards for Pentathlon and ISSF 10m shooting.
- The power source can be spring, pneumatic, compressed air, or CO2, provided that it does not require a firearms certificate. This stipulates that the air pistol must produce less than 6 ft/lbs of energy at the muzzle.
With these criteria in mind, you should seek a 4.5 mm / .177 single-shot air pistol that complies with UK regulations and is equipped with limited open sights. The next consideration is the power source, which will largely depend on your budget.
SPRING POWERED
Typically, spring-powered air pistols are the most affordable option. However, the recoil generated by the spring can negatively impact accuracy, making this type less advisable. Some high-end models, such as the Original 6 and FWB 65, utilize a spring system designed to mitigate recoil. Nevertheless, these models are no longer in production and can be quite costly on the second-hand market.
PNEUMATIC
Pneumatic air pistols utilize compressed air instead of a spring, resulting in minimal recoil. They are often referred to as recoil-less. The compressed air can be supplied in various ways:
Single Stroke (multi-stroke)
These pistols feature an onboard pump to pressurize an air reservoir. A single stroke indicates that only one action is needed for pressurization, while multi-stroke requires several "pumps."
