The SP is a great way to make progress in clay shooting. No shooters (from beginners through to seasoned competition shooters) can guarantee which eye is creating the ‘shot picture’ – unless they use the SP. Most shooters don’t have a fully dominant eye and will see two sets of barrels in their peripheral vision, which makes the true shot harder to see.
Initially, it’s important to build your trust in the lead and not to question the shot, otherwise you will look at the gun or stop your swing to check. Use targets like an incomer or teal once you’re confident in lead and line and get used to the new shot picture and shooting when you feel it’s right.
The SP will only be effective if it can be seen solely by the eye you use on the gun – i.e. the eye on the same side that you shoulder the gun.

The SP makes a real change to game shooting. It gives you a reliable way to control your eye dominance and the best chance of achieving a clean kill. It will give you confidence in all of your shots – if a shooter is struggling with eye dominance, driven birds will always cause problems.
The SP is small and discreet and doesn’t effect the aesthetics of a beautiful game gun. On a true driven bird, the SP ensures that both eyes can remain open, whilst the shooter knows that the gun is trained on the bird. Use of the SP by game shooters has seen great results. Shooters no longer need to squint or shut an eye but can concentrate on their technique – and they’ve commented on the surprising results they get from using the SP.
